June
2005
Dear
Parents,
Wow!
It is hard to believe that this school year is coming to an end.
Our last day of school is Tuesday, June 7. Our end-of-year picnic
in Central Park is Monday, June 6 at 5:30 pm (raindate: Tuesday,
June 7). Bring your own food and games. It is always a lot of
fun. All of our committees have been hard at work these past few
months:
Graduation
Committee -- The Z Brother's concert really scored with
the kids on Friday, May 20. We raised enough money to cover the
cost of the graduatino books, and to provide some extra touches
for the graduation program. The kids had a great time and many
people agreed it was a terrific way to spend an hour after school.
Thank you to Maria Blittner (Jack-Cachol), Heidi Rosenfarb (Hayley-Adom)
and Elyssa Newman (Amanda-Adom) for working all year to ensure
that the kids have a graduation book they will cherish for years
to come and for really ending the year with a bang.
Mitzvah
Committee -- The school was really buzzing on May 20.
While the children rocked with the Z brothers, our teachers feasted
on food provided by so many of our families at our second annual
TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY and it was a great success. The food
was plentiful (and most of it home cooked), the cards that were
put together by parents and illustrated by our kids looked beautiful
and the teachers were really touched by our efforts. Michele Landau
(Rebecca-Adom, Ethan and Ally-Catom) and Meredith Bukzin (Hannah-Adom)
really pulled together a great show of support for our teachers
-- thank you. On May 27, Michele also pulled together a Security
Staff and Maintenance Appreciation lunch catered by Al Forno.
The children made cards and visited the guys as they enjoyed salad,
pasta and pizza. These guys are some of the hardest working people
we know. thank you, Michele, for honoring them on our behalf.
The last mitzvah project of the year is for Nursery School graduates
from the past three years. Our annual ALUMNI ICE CREAM PARTY will
take place on June 8 from 3:30-5 pm. All alumni should have received
an invite thanks to Jessica Rosenblatt (Chloe-Sagol AM). any of
you wiht older graduates, we hope to see you there.
Thank
you to everyone who did a mitzvah by donating toys and crafts
for our Kellner Pediatric Liver Disease Foundation and for the
Juvenile Diabetes Drive. Hopefully you and your child(ren) felt
great participating in these causes. Thank you Sharon Murphy (Sam-Catom),
Melissa Kaminsky (Max-Catom) and Loren Michelman (Annie-Sagol
AM) and Joanne Sternlieb Cohn (Sarah-Catom). The Mitzvah committee
has already outlined their calendar for next year and is looking
for more people to chair several projects. Do it, you will feel
great.
Parenting
Programming -- On May 6, Rabbi Levine tried something
new by taking his monthly chat out of the building. A group of
about 8 of us met at Pain Quotidien for delicious coffee and a
lesson about Shavuot. These monthly chats are informal and fun
and a great way to learn something, meet new people and foster
a relationship with our clergy. This program wills tart again
in September -- we meet the first Friday morning of each month
after drop-off.
Fundraising
Committee -- The fundraising benefit committee wrapped
up the year with a brainstorming session for next year's benefit.
Lots of great ideas were discussed and the energy of those involved
for next year was infectious. The event will be held on a Saturday
for the first time. Hold the date of February 4, 2006 -- and even
if you are graduating this year you will be invited!
A
new Outreach committee is being formed for next
year. You will receive a letter over the summer asking you to
be a buddy for an incoming family. Sign up and help a new family
become part of our family.
On
a personal note, I (Mindy) have enjoyed co-chairing the PA for
the past three years and will miss this place terribly in the
fall. Abigail and I thank all of the committee chairs, the countless
volunteers and the people who supported our bake sales and showed
up at the many concerts and benefits and lectures. No amount of
time or dedication is too small and you have all made this a great
year. Thanks.
