Special Music Series
2005-2006
The
Special Music Series brings a wide range of Jewish music
and music
inspired by Jewish themes to the congregation. Some
of the events are
performed by our Temple Shaaray Tefila talent, while
some feature well-known outside performers from various
genres of Jewish music.
October 28: 160th Anniversary Shabbat Evening Service
Music and Liturgy spanning the history of the Temple Shaaray Tefila
October 30: 160th Anniversary Gala Cantorial Concert
A Survey of the Popular American music from 1845 to today, presented by our cantors, chorale, and choir
December 23: Pre-Chanukah Shabbat Evening
Special Holiday music to usher in the Chanukah season, performed by our chorale, choir, and cantors
January 13: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Shabbat Evening Gospel Service
Our chorale will be joined once again by a Gospel Choir to remember Dr. King's legacy.
January 27: Jews and Jazz
During the Oneg Shabbat prominent Jazz performer and historian Loren Schoenberg will give a lecture/demonstration about Jews and the history of Jazz.
March 10: Yiddish Chamber Concert
Professional soprano and teacher Juliana Yaffe will present a program of Yiddish songs, accompanied by a chamber orchestra, during the Oneg Shabbat.
April 21: Meet the Choir/Organ
During the Oneg Shabbat, the quartet and Allison will perform repertoire from musical theater and opera. We will also honor Mark Rehnstrom on the occasion of 20 years of service to our Temple .
May 25: Makhelat Hashachar
At 7:30 pm we will be treated to a performance of Jewish music by a Japanese choir. This remarkable group, in existence since 1971, has performed all over the world, including many times in Israel .
June 9: Board Installation
The choir and chorale will be joined by our cantors and their counterparts at Rodeph Sholom, Cantors Garfein and Frost for a concert at the Oneg Shabbat following the Board Installation
