Nashim is a venue to stimulate your mind and nourish your soul. We offer a smorgasbord of programs and events from a Jewish perspective with a common theme: Women -- as teachers, learners, healers, mentors, protagonists, antagonists, artists and so much more. Our monthly programs are run by lay leaders, clergy or guest speakers.

NASHIM programs explore and celebrate
womens experiences from a Jewish
perspective. Discussion leaders include group
members, female clergy and special guests.
Caring support from Shaaray Tefilas staff helps
NASHIM thrive, encouraging study and
camaraderie among our members. No
reservations are needed! Refreshments are
always served! Events are held on Mondays or
Thursdays from 7 - 8:30 pm and open to
women temple members, unless otherwise

Lilith and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!
Jewish Tales of the Supernatural
This program, led by Susan Stein, will explore
werewolves, witches, demons and fantastic
creatures, all of whom have a place in Jewish
literature! We will be hearing stories about
Lilith, who is known as a feminist symbol as
well as an evil demoness.

At My Cousins Bar Mitzvah ...
The Addict in Us All
The Jewish Womens Foundation of New York
addresses the unmet needs of Jewish women
and girls through the funding of innovative
programs and advocacy efforts. Come meet
JWF President Betsy Landis who will introduce
Sylvie Sherman-Bloch, our guest speaker from
JACS (Jewish Alcoholics, Chemically
Dependent Persons and Significant Others),
who will tell of her own addiction and
recovery.

Neshamah: The Candle of Our Souls
Our busy lives often prevent us from taking
time to check in with ourselves. It is very
easy to loose touch with our bodies, hearts, and
souls. This evenings program will consist of
guided Jewish meditation for stress reduction,
led by NASHIM advisor, Rabbi Marci Bellows.

The Making of a Social Entrepreneur
Julia Pimsleur is the Development Director at
Echoing Green, a nonprofit organization which
provides seed funding and mentorship to social
entrepreneurs. Pimsleur has a long history of
social action, including her work at the
Committee to Protect Journalists, Big Mouth
Productions (which she co-founded and where
she produced the award-winning
documentaries Innocent Until Proven Guilty and
Nuyorican Dream). A founder of Women in
Film and Television, France and served for
three years on the Board of Directors of ITVS,
the Independent Television Service, she is also
a member of the Rockwood Jewish Social
Justice Leaders. We welcomed Julia into the
TST community in 2004 when her husband
Rabbi Darren Levine joined our staff.

This special event is always Standing Room

flyers. We encourage you to invite your female
guests moms, daughters, nieces, aunts,
cousins, neighbors and friends to help make
this a most festive and memorable evening of
learning, kavanah, and friendship in our
extended community.

Baby Shower
Come wrap presents and fill baskets with all
sorts of gifts! The packages will be distributed
to moms in need so that they can enjoy a very
special Mothers Day. This program is cosponsored
with the Social Action Committee
and the Shaaray Tefila Nursery School. Bring
your friends and families to assist in this
innovative program!
