Congregational
Involvement Committee
MISSION STATEMENT:
The
Congregational Involvement Committee's (CIC)
mission is to attract, recruit, welcome, integrate
and retain members. CIC's goal is to promote
a congregational environment that is sensitive
and responsive to the needs of both the affiliated
and the not-yet-affiliated. It works to create
an atmosphere that will inspire and encourage
congregates to find a lifelong place within Temple
Shaaray Tefila where they can nurture their Jewish
identity. Another responsibility, along with
other Temple committees, is to identify and mentor future lay leaders.
CIC's
first point of contact is a Dorshei
Shalom greeter/usher program for Friday
night Shabbat services. Volunteers are trained and
organized to provide a warm welcoming environment
for both members and visitors at our Friday night
services. Inquiries about membership in the congregation
and questions about Temple programs are answered by
Dorshei
Shalom volunteers at
the Oneg Shabbat following each service.
CIC's
next point of contact is with new Temple members.
Shortly after joining Shaaray Tefila, new member
families receive a "Welcome Package" at home from
CIC. The Committee hosts a New Members' Shabbat Service and Dinner in
the Fall and a second dinner in the Spring.
CIC
sponsors two special affinity groups within the
congregation: JeTSeT for members
and non-members in their 20's and Young Professionals for
congregants in their 30's and 40's.
This
year CIC organized Kehillah, a project
to reach every Shaaray Tefila member by phone. The
committee also assists the Temple Office in calling
late-registering members to expedite the distribution
of High Holy Day tickets.
We
especially encourage new members to join us on this
very active Temple Committee, e-mail Woody Greenberg,
CIC Chair, or Alexis Ekstein, CIC Vice Chair, at administration@tstnyc.org
