Education
The
LifeLong Education Programs at Temple Shaaray Tefila include Early
Childhood (Parenting Program and Nursery School),
Religious
School and Adult Education:
Parenting
Program
Temple
Shaaray Tefila’s Parenting Program is for parents with children
between the ages of 16 and 33 months old and are developmentally
appropriate and designed to encourage exploration and enhance
socialization. We gently integrate Jewish stories, Hebrew songs
and holiday rituals into each class. Our staff includes Early
Childhood educators and a social worker.
Nursery
School
The
Nursery School at Temple Shaaray Tefila incorporates the strong
traditions and values of Judaism in a nurturing close-knit environment.
Our program is designed to develop social, emotional, cognitive,
spiritual and physical capabilities to the fullest. We provide
a wide variety of experiences, including music, art, science,
cooking and field trips. Early Childhood education enriched by
Judaism can help bring to our children an increased awareness,
appreciation and love of their rich heritage. Our curriculum includes
celebrating all the holidays and experiencing Shabbat each week
with songs, blessings, a special snack and a visit from the clergy.
Religious
School
Temple
Shaaray Tefila offers a full range of Jewish study to all children
of our congregation. The program is designed to encourage independent
thinking and enhance a positive sense of Jewish identity. All
aspects of our cultural background, language, religious heritage
and traditions are included, and instruction ranges from kindergarten
to high school.
Temple
Shaaray Tefila trains approximately 75 B’nai Mitzvah
students each year. Our young adults celebrate this Jewish
coming-of age on a Shabbat sometime after the student’s
thirteenth birthday. This event marks the new status of Jewish
responsibility by giving them the opportunity to perform a variety
of mitzvot: leading prayers as a Ba’al Tefila,
reading Torah and Haftarah as a Ba’al
Korei, and interpreting the Torah as a Darshan.
Adult
Education
The
three pillars also form the foundation of our Adult Education
programming: the study of Torah and rabbinic literature; the exploration
of prayer and worship and spirituality, in their traditional and
contemporary forms; the consideration of how our Jewishness can
prompt acts of loving-kindness and social justice; and the ongoing
celebration of Jewish culture, in all its diversity and richness.
