Purim for
Single Parents(March 2004)
'And
Esther obtained favor in the sight of all those who looked
upon her. So Esther was taken to King Ahashuerus into his
royal house. in the seventh year of his reign. And the King loved Esther more than all the women..' (Esther 2:16-18)
If you are a single parent or know parents raising children on their own in our Temple community, come or encourage them to attend a casual evening of piano music, wine, cheese, and desserts on Wednesday, March 3 from 7-9 pm at the Temple.
For the past few years, our Religious School has sponsored Shabbat dinners and a Sunday afternoon Purim party for single parents and their children. This year, the Temple invites single parents to a decidedly grown up event to usher in the joyful season of Purim and the Hebrew month of Adar.
We are optimistic that our diverse and impressive community of parents holds the key to fostering new friendships and perhaps even romance. Even if we don't succeed in making a love match for you on March 3, the Temple is delighted to provide a context for finding a supportive group of individuals who can truly understand the challenges of raising children in a one-parent household.
In the story of Purim, King Ahashuerus finds a more perfect fit with his second wife, Esther. For our parents, on their own by choice or circumstance, we welcome you to enter this Adar in the true spirit of Purim: with "light, gladness, happiness, and honor and joy." Join us. Call 212-535-8008, ext. 260 or email to let us know you will attend this casual event. It may be a very important evening for you. We look forward to seeing you!
